School-based Interventions to Prevent Obesity (R01): -This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages the formation of partnerships between academic institutions and school systems in order to develop and implement controlled, school-based intervention strategies designed to reduce the prevalence of obesity in childhood. This initiative also encourages evaluative comparisons of different intervention strategies, as well as the use of methods to detect synergistic interactions between different types of interventions. -Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary. The total amount awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the mechanism numbers, quality, duration, and costs of the applications received. -This FOA will use the research project grant mechanism (R01) will be used. As an applicant you will be solely responsible for planning, directing, and executing the proposed project. -This funding opportunity will utilize the R01 mechanism, but will be run in parallel with a program announcement of identical scientific scope (PA-06-417) that will utilize the exploratory/developmental Grant (R21) or the Small Grant (R03) (PA-06-416) grant mechanism.
