Shorebird Conservation Project: THIS IS A NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD TO A SINGLE-SOURCE AND THERE IS NO FULL ANNOUNCEMENT ASSOCIATED WITH THIS NOTICE. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) intends to award a grant agreement to Point Blue Conservation Science to improve access to and use of the Migratory Shorebird Project survey data by Pacific Flyway countries to inform their shorebird conservation and management decisions. The Migratory Shorebird Project is the largest coordinated survey of wintering shorebirds on the Pacific Coast of the Americas. Initiated in 2011 by Point Blue Conservation Science, it is a multi-national cooperative research and monitoring effort of 50 conservation science organizations and agencies from 12 countries. Its purpose is to conserve shorebirds and wetlands from Alaska to Chile by connecting communities, standardizing data, and applying science to conservation problems across the flyway. Aspects of this work include co-developing a training curriculum for Latin American partners on how to access and use data, increasing ease of accessibility to the data through translation into Spanish, and identifying opportunities to engage decision-makers at multiple scales (local site to international networks) with data to inform conservation and management actions. Point Blue Conservation Science was selected to receive this award based on unique qualifications due to itâ¿¿s standing as a leader in shorebird research, conservation and management along the Pacific Coast of the Americas, and their role as principle manager of the Migratory Shorebird Project. This project addresses Secretarial Priority #1: Creating a conservation stewardship legacy second only to Teddy Roosevelt as it promotes natural resource conservation through sustainable use integrating the best science (survey data) for the conservation of migratory shorebirds. Point Blue is a leader in using science to develop balanced conservation solutions and has used data from the Migratory Shorebird Project to identify best practices for land and water resource management throughout the Pacific Flyway. Work with stakeholders in the U.S. and international partners through the Migratory Shorebird Project addresses Secretarial Priority #3: Restoring trust with our local communities by improving relationships and expanding lines of communication with international partners who look to consider local communities in developing conservation solutions Funding for this project is provided under the authority of the Fish and Wildlife Act of 1956, as amended, 16 U.S.C. 742a-754; Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act of 1958, 16 U.S.C. 661-667(e); Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, 16 U.S.C. 2901-2911; the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, 16 U.S.C. 709a, and the Department of State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs Appropriations Act, 2017.
