Skin Diseases Research Core Centers (P30): Purpose. The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), National Institutes of Health, invites applications for research core centers (P30s) in skin biology and diseases. The Skin Diseases Research Core Centers (Core Centers) will provide shared facilities and services to groups of established, currently funded investigators addressing scientific problems in skin biology and diseases in order to improve efficiency, accelerate the pace of research, and ensure greater productivity. Core Centers also support pilot and feasibility studies and program enrichment activities.Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the P30 grant mechanism.Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. Approximately $2.4 million in total costs (Direct costs plus Facilities and Administrative costs) may be awarded in support of this solicitation. Four new and/or competing continuation grants are anticipated. Budget and Project Period. Direct costs of up to $400,000 per year may be requested, with a total project period of 5 years.Research Plan Page Length: The research plan component (consisting of the equivalent to Specific Aims, Background and Significance, and Research Design and Methods sections) of each individual Core or Pilot and Feasibility Project is limited to a maximum of 15 pages. In addition, the description of the administrative Unit is also limited to 15 pages.Eligible Institutions/Organizations. Institutions/organizations listed in Section III, 1.A. are eligible to apply. Eligible Project Directors/Principal Investigators (PDs/PIs). Individuals with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research are invited to work with their institution/organization to develop an application for support. Individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups as well as individuals with disabilities are always encouraged to apply for NIH support. Number of Applications. Only one application may be submitted per institutionResubmissions. Resubmission applications are not permitted in response to this FOA. Applicants who have applied unsuccessfully to previous Skin Diseases Research Core Center FOAs may apply to the current FOA, but must present the application as a new one. The application must not include an Introduction section or otherwise explicitly address the review of the previous application.Renewals. Renewal applications are permitted in response to this FOA. However, Skin Diseases Research Core Centers that have previously applied unsuccessfully for renewal must submit a new application for this FOA. Special Date(s). This FOA uses non-standard due dates.
