SpaceTech-REDDI-2017 Appendix E1: Smallsat Technology Partnerships: The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Headquarters has released a solicitation, titled “Smallsat Technology Partnerships (STP)” as an appendix to the Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD) NASA Research Announcement (NRA), titled “Space Technology Research, Development, Demonstration, and Infusion 2017 (SpaceTech-REDDI-2017).” The STMD Small Spacecraft Technology program seek proposals from accredited U.S. universities to develop unique, disruptive, or transformational space technologies that have the potential to enable mission capabilities that are more rapid, more transformative, and more affordable than previously achievable. The overall objective of the Small Spacecraft Technology program is to facilitate development projects and demonstration missions that: enable new mission architectures for which small spacecraft are uniquely suited; expand the capability of small spacecraft to execute missions at new destinations and in challenging new environments; enable the augmentation of existing assets and future missions with supporting small spacecraft. The appendix exclusively seeks proposals that are responsive to one of three topics: (1) Instrument Technologies for Small Spacecraft. (2) Technologies That Enable Large Swarms of Small Spacecraft. (3) Technologies That Enable Deep Space Small Spacecraft Missions. Only accredited U.S. universities are eligible to submit proposals. Teaming with a NASA Center is required (see the appendix for complete eligibility and teaming requirements). Mandatory Notices of Intent are due on or before August 21, 2017 at 5pm ET and applications are due on or before September 20, 2017 at 5pm ET. Selections will be announced in November 2017 (target). The solicitation is available by opening the NASA Research Opportunities homepage at http://nspires.nasaprs.com, selecting "Solicitations," then selecting "Open Solicitations," and, selecting " Smallsat Technology Partnerships (STP)". Technical, programmatic, and procurement comments and questions may be addressed by e-mail to [email protected]. Responses to inquiries will be answered by e-mail and may also be included in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document located on the NSPIRES page associated with the appendix; anonymity of persons/institutions who submit questions will be preserved.
