- Grant Description
- The purpose of this program is to strengthen HIV testing and counseling services integrated in Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) Clinics and Youth Centers of Family Guidance Association of Ethiopia (FGAE); strengthen and expand integrated and comprehensive prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT) services in SRH Clinics and Youth Centers of FGAE; and strengthen confidential STIs services for Most At Risk Populations (MARPs) integrated in SRH and Youth Centers of FGAE. The FGAE is a local non-governmental organization delivering comprehensive reproductive health services. Presently, the association runs a network of 18 comprehensive Reproductive Health (RH) Clinics, 28 multi-service youth centers, 850 community-based centers, and 250 outreach service delivery outlets situated across the country to address the growing RH needs of the poor, marginalized and high-risk population groups. Since early 2002, FGAE has been participating in HIV/AIDS prevention and control programs by integrating HIV voluntary counseling and testing, and provider initiated testing and counseling (VCT & PITC) using HIV rapid tests, PMTCT services, STI diagnosis and treatment, and community home-based care for those infected and affected by the pandemic. Since 2007, CDC/PEPFAR has supported FGAE's PMTCT, HIV counseling and testing (HCT) and confidential STI clinics through a cooperative agreement with JHPIEGO. Earlier this year, CDC/PEPFAR also began providing additional support through a cooperative agreement with Johns Hopkins University. More than 250,000 people received counseling and testing services in the existing 40 sites of FGAE from 2007 to 2009 through PEPFAR's support. This announcement will support the existing and additional new sites to deliver PMTCT, HCT and STI services integrated into SRH clinics.
