Sub-Area of Interest 4A: Fuel Processing - Sulfur andCarbon Tolerant Diesel Fuel Reformation Catalysts: NOTE: Please read the Master Funding OpportunityAnnouncement (attached below)for complete details on evaluation criteria and application preparationinstructions.SUB-AREA OF INTEREST: 4A Fuel Processing - Sulfur and Carbon TolerantDieselFuel Reformation CatalystsApplications are sought to develop improved or novel diesel fuel reformingcatalysts suitable for use in either autothermal reforming (ATR) andcatalyticpartial oxidation reforming (CPOX) reactors. The developed catalysts must offer:?Improved resistance to carbon deposition and sulphur poisoning, even attheexpense of rapid reactor kinetics (i.e., larger reactor volumes with a lessactive, more tolerant catalyst).?Carbon deposition tolerance under reduced water concentrations for ATR orwithout water (S:C?0) for ?dry? CPOX.?Tolerance to 50-ppmv sulfur.Pre-reforming catalysts or methane-rich reformate production catalysts arealsoof interest. Minimal steam usage or incorporation of oxygen/air to conducttheperforming is desired. Use of sequential fuel processing reactors whereincatalyst selection and/or reactor design may be optimized for heavyhydrocarbons (e.g. diesel fuel) to aid in mitigating the technicalchallengesof carbon deposition and sulfur poisoning will also be considered.Selected materials must be compatible with SOFC power systems and materialsandmust sustain operating performance for >10,000 hours consistent with truckAPUapplications. For any new material set, cost, manufacturability andreliability are critical factors in meeting SECA programgoals.
