Sudden Infant Death Syndrome/Other Infant Death Cooperative Agreement Program: The purpose of this Sudden Infant Disease Syndrome Cooperative Agreement program is to meet the needs of families and others that are impacted by the tragedy of SIDS and Other Infant Death and provide a mechanism for communication and collaboration among the State SIDS/ID programs, associated groups and organizations and MCHB to assure improved infant health status through improved health care systems. Two categories of funding opportunity are available in this announcement: 1) National SIDS and Other Infant Death Program Support Center - Potential needs vary among this population addressing such issues as case management; risk reduction; bereavement support; training/education; reducing racial disparities in SIDS; and expanding services to include other infant deaths (including still births and miscarriages). In support of stated needs and issues, this cooperative agreement is expected to develop, implement, and evaluate new models of service/support for under served families who are prospective or new parents or who lost an infant; provide technical assistance, as requested, to programs seeking to replicate campaign models or implement new campaigns; and create and distribute effective health messages regarding reducing infant mortality as well as engage other stakeholders such as March of Dimes and Healthy Mothers and Healthy Babies in becoming partners in such efforts. 2) Program to Enhance Performance of SIDS/ID Initiatives - This cooperative agreement will be used to: disseminate new information about SIDS/ID in a format most useful to program, policy and decision makers concerned with developing SIDS/ID policies and programs in the public and private sectors at local, State and national levels; facilitate the MCHB=s understanding of the maternal and child health concerns held by policy and decision makers representing SIDS/ID Associations and Organizations; communicate to SIDS/ID related organizations the position of MCHB, HRSA, and key federal agencies on critical issues; identify needs and interest for public health (MCH) training within their constituencies; gather the recommendations and positions of SIDS/ID related organizations on relevant issues and share as appropriate; and, identify, create and expand opportunities for collaboration and coordinated effort in response to new, emerging or ongoing SIDS/ID issues or concerns with! the potential to impact MCH populations or programs.
