Additional Information on Eligibility
The NBTS is the only eligible applicant that can apply for this funding opportunity due to their unique position as the official national service provider and policy advisor for safe blood collection and transfusion practices under the Ministry of Health.
Grant Description
The NBTS will work in collaboration with other divisions of the ministry of health and PEPFAR Cote d'Ivoire to improve the breadth, scale, and quality of the blood safety program. Funding will support activities to increase blood donations from regular voluntary non-remunerated donors (VNRD), ensure safety through a centralized blood screening system operated by the National Blood Transfusion Service, and to promote the appropriate use of blood and blood components for transfusion recipients. Activities will also involve linkages with other HIV prevention activities and coordination of mobilization and retention activities for low-risk blood donors. All activities implemented under this program should follow national policies and guidelines for the delivery of blood safety interventions. In addition to program implementation, NBTS will continue to develop methods to build its technical capacity and reinforce other organizations which collaborate with the NBTS such as blood donor associations. A priority activity for this agreement will be the implementation of a sustainability plan, which will include advocacy with the Ivorian government for an increased commitment to national blood safety efforts and a transition plan to maintain quality while diminishing financial inputs under the life of this agreement.
