Supporting the University of the West Indies to Deliver and Institutionalize Leadership and Management Training for Health Professionals in Eleven Caribbean Partnership Framework Countries, under the President's: The purpose of this program is to build management and leadership capacity in the eleven Caribbean Partnership Framework countries in order to strengthen national responses to HIV and AIDS and Caribbean health systems overall. This will be done by supporting the University of the West Indies to continue to train public health leaders and managers and to institutionalize the leadership training in an existing tertiary level educational institution in the region as a strategy for sustainability.

Additional Information on Eligibility
The University, with campuses in 3 countries, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, and Barbados, is designated as an associate institute of CARICOM (Article 22, Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas Establishing the Caribbean Community, 1973). CARICOM is an internationally recognized grouping of Caribbean island states for the purpose of (among other things) accelerated, coordinated and sustained economic development and convergence; and enhanced functional co-operation including intensified activities in health and education. As an associate institute of CARICOM, UWI has important functional relationships which contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the Community. UWI is therefore supported by Caribbean governments and is recognized as the institution with the mandate for providing the region with the skills needed for national and regional development. The institution is intimately involved in high level decisions regarding human resources and has the trust of the Caribbean governments. As an associate member of CARICOM, UWI attends PAHO’s annual meeting of the CARICOM Council on Human and Social Development (COHSOD) held in Washington DC and presents Ministers of Health with an annual update on the work of CHLI. UWI is also a member of the Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) and has a major role in the development and implementation of the Caribbean Regional Strategic Framework (CRSF) for HIV and AIDS.
