THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS- Resource Management Internships at Hot Springs National Park- THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS: BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Cooperative Agreement Number P15AC00031 was entered into by and between the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, (NPS), and The Student Conservation Association Inc. (SCA), for the purpose of building the next generation of conservation leaders and inspire lifelong stewardship of our environment and communities by engaging young people in hands-on service to the land through service opportunities, outdoor skills, and leadership traning. Unless otherwise specified herein, the terms and conditions as stated in the Master Cooperative Agreement will apply to this Task Agreement. Project Title: Resource Management Internships at Hot Springs National Park Project Description and Justification: The principal purposes of this agreement are to: 1.) accomplish natural resource management tasks such as digitizing and summarizing historic scientific research records, providing interpretive and educational content about Hot Springs National Park's natural resources to the visiting public, and performing data entry and analysis of historic and present natural resources data; to 2.) accomplish cultural resource management tasks in the park's museum collections such as object accessioning, cataloging, performing preventative conservation, monitoring environmental conditions, and rehousing collection items; and to 3.) encourage public education and enjoyment of the park's resources through providing interpretive talks, tours, and printed interpretive materials. Hot Springs National Park was originally established as Hot Springs Reservation in 1832, and the park has a rich cultural history along with significant natural resources, especially the thermal waters which lend the park its name. According to the park's foundation document, the fundamental resources and values of the park include the thermal water, public interaction with geothermal water and the natural environment, the cultural landscape, and the museum collection. Because most early records of historic scientific research exist only on paper in the park's archives, to make that information more easily available to park managers and the public, the records must be digitized and summarized and various historic and present data must also be entered into digital databases to allow for data analysis to inform park resource management decisions. In addition, the park recently received funding to complete new interpretive wayside exhibits along the park's trails, creating the need for the development of wording and design for exhibit signage with natural resources content. The park has more than 700,000 museum collection items. Due to a significant backlog of administrative records, there is a need to catalog and accession thousands of pages of records. Other needs include cataloging, organizing, and rehousing slides and three-dimensional artifacts to ensure items are not damaged or lost because of improper storage practices of the past. STATEMENT OF WORK RECIPIENT AGREES TO: 1. To assist, promote, and stimulate youth engagement through education, job training, development of responsible citizenship, productive community involvement, furthering the understanding and appreciation of natural and cultural resources through the care and enhancement of public resources. 2. To assist with recruitment and selection of interns to participate in the work described in Article I-Background and Objectives and throughout this document. 3. Manage and carryout administrative functions associated with the provision of services under this agreement. NATIONAL PARK SERVICE AGREES TO: 1. Select and manage interns and their related work projects. 2. Participate and collaborate jointly with the Recipient in carrying out the scope of work. 3. To provide to the interns an orientation to the NPS and Hot Springs National Park operations and missions, training specific to the natural and cultural resources of the park, training for safety, and training on the completion of all assigned job duties, which will include specific instruction on various NPS digital database systems. 4. To provide NPS technical representatives to assist with specifics of the project as needed. 5. Review and approve one stage of work before the next stage can begin. 6. Halt an activity if detailed performance specifications are not met. 7. Oversee Recipient discretion with respect to scope of work, organizational structure, staffing, mode of operations and other management processes, combined with close monitoring or operational involvement during performance under this Task Agreement. 8. Agreement Technical Representative will obtain copies of the end-of term evaluations and program assessments and forward to the Midwest Regional Financial Assistance Office.
