Targeting Calcium Regulatory Molecules for Arrhythmia Prevention (R01): -The goal of this Program Announcement (PA) is to exploit present knowledge of Ca2+ regulatory molecules and the role they play in arrhythmogenesis to develop novel therapeutic targets. Critical components of successful responses to this program announcement are (1) preclinical or early clinical testing of promising new therapeutic strategies to terminate and prevent cardiac arrhythmias in established models of human arrhythmogenic disease, and (2) the feasibility to move positive findings to phase 1 or 2 clinical trials. -Grantees must budget for and attend two Principal Investigator meetings in Bethesda, MD, usually scheduled during the second and fourth year of the award. -Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary. The total amount awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the quality, duration, and costs of the applications received.
