Technology Development for the Comprehensive Determination of Functional Elements in Eukaryotic Genomes (R01): This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits applications to develop new technologies for the efficient, comprehensive, high-throughput identification and validation of sequence-based functional elements in eukaryotic genomes. This FOA will use the R01 grant mechanism and is being issued in conjunction with an FOA of identical scientific scope, RFA-HG-07-028, which solicits applications under the Exploratory/Developmental (R21) grant mechanism. $2 million dollars in FY 2007 funds have been committed to fund applications received in response to this RFA and to its companion RFA-HG-07-028. Between 6 and 10 awards will be made between this FOA and RFA-HG-07-028. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent on the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications. Budget and Project Period: The total project period for an application submitted in response to this funding opportunity may not exceed three years. Direct costs are limited to $350,000 per year. Eligible Organizations: For-profit organizations; non-profit organizations; public or private institutions, such as universities, colleges, hospitals, and laboratories; units of State and local governments; eligible agencies of the Federal government; and domestic or foreign institutions. Eligible Principal Investigators (PIs): Individuals with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research are invited to work with their institution to develop an application for support. Individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups as well as individuals with disabilities are always encouraged to apply for NIH support.
