The USAID/Nigeria s new civil society support program called Advocacy, Awareness and Civic Empowerment (ADVANCE) and The USAID/Nigeria s new conflict program called Conflict Mitigation and Management Support (CAMS): USAID/Nigeria is finalizing the design of several upcoming procurements to implement its Country Strategic Plan (CSP), 2004-2009. The USAID/Nigeria CSP can be downloaded from USAID?s website at www.usaid.gov. In the SO11 democracy and governance sectors, there will be two new programs: a) The USAID/Nigeria?s new civil society support program called ?Advocacy, Awareness and Civic Empowerment? (ADVANCE). The activities under this program will be targeted at achieving three discrete results: advocacy, awareness, and empowerment of citizens. The focus of this project will be on demanding good governance at the federal level, and selected state and local levels. Assistance will be provided to increase the capacity of selected civil society organizations, including those mitigating and managing conflicts as well as those working on the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative, trafficking in persons and anti-corruption issues in general. The Mission also expects ADVANCE to contribute substantially to addressing cross-cutting and converging themes including: gender, food security, environment and HIV/AIDS. The USAID funding for this project is approximately $11 million over 5 years. b) The USAID/Nigeria?s new conflict program called ?Conflict Mitigation and Management Support? (CAMS), under which the activities will provide assistance to Nigerian partners to mitigate and manage many of Nigeria?s conflicts in targeted states. The envisioned activities will be a combination of: 1) crisis response and conflict mitigation programs focused on analysis, early warning, and mediation; 2) pilot projects that integrate or ?mainstream? conflict into traditional development sectors such as agriculture and economic growth, democracy and governance, health, and education; 3) a small grants component for rapid response; and (4) activities that provide at-risk youth and ethnic/religious organizations with constructive opportunities for social, economic, and political engagement. The USAID funding for this project is approximately $3.250 million over a three-year period. These above two procurements are expected to be issued on this website as drafts for comment o/a August 01, 2004.Any questions regarding the above information should be directed to Kenneth LuePhang, the USAID/Nigeria Agreement Officer, at [email protected], and Jackie Ramanitrera, the USAID/Nigeria Acquisition and Assistance Specialist, at [email protected].
