Tools for Germplasm Cryopreservation (STTR [R41/R42]): -Purpose. Tools for germplasm cryopreservation have become increasingly important in enabling repositories to meet the needs for establishing banks of animal germplasm for current and future research needs. This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) solicits applications from small business concerns (SBCs) for Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) projects that propose innovative research in the areas of animal germplasm cryopreservation methods, reagents, equipment, biosecurity, and the detection of disease, including the vertical transmission of disease. (See more information listed in Section I. Funding Opportunity Description ). -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the STTR (R41/R42) grant mechanisms for Phase I, Phase II, and Fast-Track applications and runs in parallel with a FOA of identical scientific scope, RFA-RR-08-003, that solicits applications under the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) (R43/R44) grant mechanisms. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The participating organization(s) NCRR, NIGMS and NICHD intend to commit approximately $400,000 dollars in FY 2009 to fund one to four (1-4) Phase I, Phase II, or Fast Track applications under the STTR set-aside funding mechanism. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
