Treatment Response: Linking Genes With Behavioral Phenotypes of Relevance to Patients, Families, and Policymakers (R03): This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) calls for applications that integrate what are currently two distinct tracks of research -- determining the complex genetic basis of mental disorders, and creating new strategies and tools for assessing individual functioning in the real world. By combining these two areas of research, we aim to characterize the relationship between genetic risk and functional abilities. - This FOA will use the Small Research Grant (R03) mechanism and runs in parallel to three related FOAs that utilize other mechanisms: (RFA-MH-07-010 (R01); RFA-MH-07-013 (collaborative R01); and RFA-MH-07-012 (R34)). -The NIMH intends to committee approximately $1,000,000 to fund 2-6 new grants in response to this and three related FOAs. -The R03 is intended to support small research projects that can be carried out in a short period of time with limited resources. -Eligible organizations include: For profit organizations; Non-profit organizations; Public or private institutions, such as universities, colleges, hospitals and laboratories; Units of State government; Units of local government; Eligible institutions of the Federal government; Domestic institutions; Foreign institutions; Faith-based or community-based organizations; Units of State Tribal government; and Units of Local Tribal government. -Eligible principal investigators include any individuals with the skill, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research.
