Twinning Local Universities in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia with U.S. Universities under the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief: Secretarys Forecast Summary CDC-RFA-PS06-645 CDCs Procurement and Grants Office has published a new funding opportunity entitled, "Twinning of Local Universities in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia with U.S. Universities under the Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief." $500,000 will be available in FY2006 to fund seven awards to build progressively an indigenous, sustainable response to the national HIV epidemic through the rapid expansion of innovative, culturally appropriate, high-quality HIV/AIDS anti-retroviral treatment (ART) and improved linkages to HIV confidential counseling and testing that target university communities and facilities within the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. . Universities; and . Colleges. In addition, the awardee is required to meet the following requirements: Competition is limited to universities, whether public or private, based in the United States (defined as including the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, Guam, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau) that have medical schools, nursing schools, and/or departments or schools of public health. Preference will go to universities and colleges that have existing relationships with indigenous teaching hospitals in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. An "indigenous organization" is defined as any entity whose headquarters is in Ethiopia. As such, the majority of the entitys staff (senior, mid-level, support) is comprised of host country and/or regional nationals.
