University Research Program for Georgian PhD Professors: The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia is pleased to announce an open competition for the University Research Program. PAS invites U.S. universities and educational institutions to submit proposals for one- to two-year projects aimed at improving the teaching of academic research at Georgian universities, and to encourage greater interaction between Georgian and American researchers. The project is designed to develop Georgian university research faculties' teaching capacity in western research methodology and approaches and to increase publication of peer-reviewed articles by Georgian researchers, with the long-term goal of advancing Georgia's economic growth. Upon completion of the program, the Georgian faculties should refined the existing research methodology curriculum, honed their skills in teaching quantitative and qualitative research as well as academic writing, improved instruction in scientific ethics, oral and poster presentation skills, and library usage. In addition, faculty member should have mentored PhD students in research methods, so that the mentees are better able to develop analytical papers, communicate research findings to other researchers and policy makers, and eventually publish in peer-reviewed articles. The proposal may also include teaching academic English and updating Georgian research library capacities and resources.

Additional Information on Eligibility
Eligibility is limited to U.S. universities and educational institutions. Applicants must have a demonstrated expertise in teaching western research methodologies, statistical approaches, and standards; in teaching mentoring researchers (in preparing an article/thesis/dissertation); in teaching academic /scientific English (optional). Knowledge of the Georgian higher education system and established relationships with Georgian universities and educational organizations will be favorably considered. However, the Department encourages organizations that have not previously received international program funding from the U.S. Government to apply under this announcement.
