Grant Description
The Veterans Benefits Act of 2010 established a five-year grant program to be administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to encourage the development of new assistive technologies for use in specially adapted housing (SAH). This SAH Assistive Technology Grant (SAH-ATG) program has annual funding of $1,000,000. VA may award any number of grants each year, yet any one grant cannot exceed $200,000. VA's Specially Adapted Housing (SAH) program aims to provide a barrier-free living environment that affords Veterans or Servicemembers a level of independent living he or she may not normally enjoy. Veterans or Servicemembers with certain severe service-connected disabilities may be entitled to a grant from VA (independent of the assistive technology grant program posted here) for the purpose of constructing an adapted home or modifying an existing home to meet their adaptive needs. More information on SAH can be found at http://www.benefits.va.gov/homeloans/sah.asp.
