Venous Thrombosis and Thromboembolism in the Elderly (R21): -Purpose. This FOA supports research to explore the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and clinical aspects (diagnosis, treatment, and prevention) of venous thrombosis (VT) and thromboembolism (VTE) in the elderly. -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the R21 grant mechanism and runs in parallel with an FOA of identical scientific scope, RFA-AG-07-002, that solicits applications under the R01 mechanism. -Funds Available. The total amount to be awarded for applications received in response to both this FOA and RFA-AG-07-002 is $3.3 million total costs (approximately $2.0 million direct costs). A maximum of $1.8 million total costs (approximately $1.1 million direct costs) will be used to fund R21 applications received in response to this FOA.
