Visitor and Resource Outreach, Support of Equestrian Operations: The equestrian program is a fundamental component of SAMOâ¿¿s public outreach program. Community neighbors volunteer their time to ride the Parkâ¿¿s horses. They are mounted with NPS Volunteer uniforms and patrol almost every day of the week, often more than once daily. While NPS Rangers patrol on horseback, it is not routine. The Park relies on the volunteer program to care for the horses, exercise them all daily, feed and medicate them, and patrol with them. The equestrian community in the Santa Monica Mountains is vibrant and active. We rely on these neighbor volunteers to serve as unique ambassadors while on horseback.
