Women, Peace and Security in Iraq: Secretary's War Widows Program: The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL) in partnership with the Secretary's Office of Global Women's Issues (S/GWI) announce a Request for Proposals from organizations interested in submitting proposals for projects that promote the access of widows and single female heads of household to political, economic and social advancement in Iraq pursuant to the goals and objectives of the U.S. National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security and U.S. Strategy to Prevent and Respond to Gender-based Violence Globally.DRL and S/GWI invite non-governmental, low-profit limited liability companies (L3Cs), academic institutions and other institutions for which profit is not a primary motive, to submit proposals outlining program concepts and capacity to manage projects targeting the following: Building the Capacity of Iraqi NGOs to Support Widows and Single Female Heads of Households' Access to Economic, Political and Social Advancement Today there are an estimated 1 to 3 million widows in Iraq. Supporting widows' access to political, economic and social assistance, particularly victims of gender based violence, is critical to ensuring the sustained peace, security and stability of the country.This program aims to enable targeted technical assistance to a network of local NGOs focused on advancing widows? access to livelihoods and social assistance programs in Iraq.
