OVERVIEW, RECIPIENT AND NPS INVOLVEMENT
The Montana Conservation Corps will collaborate with the National Park Service (NPS) to work with youth crews on a variety of frontcountry projects in Yellowstone National Park (Park) from June 6 through September 23, 2016.
Substantial involvement on the part the National Park Service (NPS) is anticipated for the successful completion of the objectives to be funded by this award. NPS staff will assist with projects; engage recipients, partners, communities, and/or visitors in shared environmental stewardship.
The project promotes greater public and private participation in natural and cultural preservation programs and activities. The project builds resource stewardship ethics in its participants.
The information, products and/or services identified or developed by this project will be shared through a variety of strategies to increase public awareness, knowledge, and support for historic preservation and stewardship of the nation’s natural and cultural significance and heritage.
NPS did not solicit full and open competition for this award based the following criteria:
The cooperator is a member of the established 21st Century Conservation Corp Program- Youth Engagement and Development and was awarded a Cooperative Agreement P16AC00682 allowing Montana Conservation Corps to participate in specific tasks, and can provide the necessary activities involved in this particular task while providing an effective outcome for the National Park Service and the promotion of youth involvement. Three members of the 21st Century Conservation Corp Program were considered for this award and the Montana Conservation Corps was selected based on the organization’s technical qualifications and long history in working with the National Park Service, engaging youth in conservation and stewardship projects on public lands.
