Assess Population Dynamics of Lahontan Cutthroat Trout in Walker Lake: The objective is to fund collection of data to identify key biological questions, and design sampling protocols to assess dynamics of Lahontan cutthroat trout (LCT) in Walker Lake, Nevada through collaboration with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The entity selected will analyze demographic data from encounters with individually tagged LCT found in Walker Lake. Modern methods for analyzing data from marked animals to estimate key population parameters for LCT will be implemented. Parameters to be considered include growth rate, population size, rate of population change, annual and seasonal survival, movement among habitats in Walker Lake, recruitment and harvest rate by anglers. Additionally estimation of functional relationships between limnological conditions and demographic parameters will be assessed. The entity selected will conduct full time sampling of LCT during the approximately six month sampling period (November-April). The duration of the study is four years. Daily samples will be taken from Walker Lake as well as contacting anglers to solicit information on tagged LCT encountered by anglers. The entity selected will produce annual reports describing data and analyses, produce a final report describing population dynamics of LCT in Walker Lake and publish the results in a peer-reviewed journal.
