Avian Influenza Cooperative Research Centers -Studies at the Human-Animal Interface: The need for an integrated human health - animal health approach to research on zoonotic diseases is highlighted by the emergence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in Southeast Asia in early 2004 with subsequent and rapid spread to other parts of Asia, Eastern Europe and Africa. This solicitation is for cooperative research centers to perform research on avian influenza at the human-animal interface to improve and inform public health detection, prevention and control strategies.
