BLM-Alaska, Glennallen Field Office Rural Youth Initiatives: Many of our non-profit and Native village partners are in remote locations and are far removed from our office headquarters. They are working to provide opportunities for youth in natural resource management and to build skills in outdoor survival, safety, subsistence, and resource knowledge. They have limited funding, transportation, and educational materials to conduct programs for youth and unable to travel to current BLM-sponsored programs or activities. Additionally, BLM has difficulty sending staff to each of these rural locations each year to provide hands on outdoor education, but the BLM does have resources that can be shared with organizations and village partners for the purpose of youth programs and events that help to teach youth about BLM land and resource management. Financial assistance would create or enhance existing programs that work to achieve these mutually beneficial goals of providing youth opportunities to learn about natural resources and stewardship of these resources and public lands.
