BLM OR-WA - 4-H International Summer Camp: The Department of the Interior Youth Initiative is a focused effort to expand programs that engage, educate, and employ youth from all backgrounds in exploring, connecting with, and preserving the shared natural and cultural resources on public lands. The BLM has partnered with the State of Oregon 4-H Program, established in 1911 at Oregon State University, to support these efforts through the 4-H International Summer Camp which has provided underserved youth with the opportunity to interact with the natural world and gain valuable skills.
The objective for this agreement is to enhance youth and young adult awareness and appreciation of forest and aquatic ecosystems in the Pacific Northwest while increasing the number of under-represented racial/ethnic minority youth and young adults who seek academic and professional careers in science and natural resources. The program will provide academic, experiential, and environmental education opportunities for youth, and will focus on youth leadership, college and workforce preparation, and outreach to underserved audiences.
