BLM OR-WA Plant Conservation, Vale District: The Vale Plant Conservation Program works with partners to conserve, understand, manage and recover federally listed, rare plants, and important native plants and their plant communities, particularly sagebrush steppe, throughout the BLM Vale District. Currently, the Vale District has funding available to continue long term monitoring of Mulford's milkvetch. The BLM has been working with partners since 2009 conducting studies and monitoring Mulford's milkvetch. The goals of monitoring has been to 1) document long-term trends in population size and structure; 2) determination of the effects of grazing on population size and reproduction; and 3) comparison of Oregon population dynamics with that of population dynamics in other States.
The principal purpose/objective of this plant conservation program is to support botanical conservation with projects of mutual interest/benefit to assist in the conservation and improved management and recovery of native plants and their habitats. Projects will include, but are not limited to, plant and community monitoring, seed collection, rare plant inventory, creation of species management plans, and developing restoration techniques/protocols.
