BLM OR-WA Youth Services, Clackamas County, Oregon: The Bureau of Land Management has partnered with organizations to provide youth with opportunities to gain experiential based experiences through projects pertaining to recreation and restoration. Projects have taught youth about current environmental issues and the BLMâ¿¿s resource management objectives. Youth have gained an appreciation for the appropriate use of public lands and resources they provide, to develop and strengthen their work ethic by teaching them about the natural world and giving them the opportunity to gain basic employment skills. Youth have been provided with an environment that supports learning about communication skills, conflict resolution, problem solving, and leadership abilities through working on projects in the natural world that have consisted of maintenance and improvement of existing trails, recreation corridors and sites. Restoration projects have given youth a sense of ownership and stewardship for public lands.
The objective of this agreement is to provide Clackamas County youth with the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge that will help them understand the importance of restoring and protecting our public lands. The opportunities provided will instill in them a work ethic and a sense of ownership and stewardship for our natural resources through activities such as maintenance and improvement of existing trails, recreation corridors and sites, and various restoration activities such as invasive species removal, site preparation and tree planting, trail decommissioning, and erosion control.
