Backcountry Trails Program at Kings Canyon National Park: Personnel from the CCC Backcountry Program and NPS Trail Crews will collaborate to perform trail construction and preservation tasks in the front and backcountry areas of the Kings Canyon National Park. While living within the National Park, CCC Backcountry Program corpsmembers will strive towards developing valuable teamwork and leadership practices through their training and educational experience of resource and trails management. This includes such trades skills as repairing trail structures, constructing reroutes, restoring abandoned trail and general trail openings, as well as general trail maintenance, trail reconstructions, and trail-associated wildlands restoration, as designated per the Trail Maintenance Plan. Afterwards, through this bonding work experience, corpsmembers will be able to engage with their own communities on the importance of the preservation and conservation of natural resources and encourage others to enjoy the stewardship of public lands as well. The most significant public purpose of this project is the youth development these corpsmembers will achieve from the specific job skills training, exposure to federal lands stewardship work, community and personal development curriculum, and learning of wilderness⿐derived values. However, indirectly, visitors to this area will enjoy a more enhanced natural environment due to the efforts of these youth conservation activities. Upon completion of this project, the public will have safer trails, access to abandoned trails, and improved resource conditions on approximately 65 miles of frontcountry and wilderness trails in Grant Grove and Cedar Grove, as well as on the Pacific Crest Trail areas.
