Calcium Oxalate Stone Diseases (R01): The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to increase investigator interest in research into the genetics and heritability of oxalate regulation and the oxalate stone diseases, and to develop new treatments for the disorder. The Division of Kidney and Urologic and Hematologic Diseases of the NIDDK has identified this initiative as one of a subset of active funding opportunities that are high priority, and warrant a set-aside of NIDDK "Special Emphasis" funds (see http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-DK-03-001.html). - This funding opportunity will utilize the (R01) mechanism, but will be run in parallel with a funding opportunity of identical scientific scope (PA-06-152) that will utilize the Exploratory/Developmental Research grant (R21). - Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary.
