Centers for Medical Countermeasures Against Radiation: This RFA invites applications to establish Centers for Medical Countermeasures Against Radiation (CMCR). The primary goal of the Centers will be to develop new medical products that will protect against, mitigate the effects of, and treat the short- and long-term consequences of radiation exposure due to terrorist attack. NIAID intends to commit approximately $28 million in Fiscal Year 2005 to fund six to eight CMCRs as cooperative (U19) agreements.

Additional Information on Eligibility
Eligible agencies of the Federal Government are eligible to apply. Foreign institutions are not eligible to apply but may be members of consortia headed by U.S. institutions Several special provisions apply to foreign organizations that are proposed for participation in a CMCR cooperative agreement: - Funds for alterations or renovations cannot be requested - Charge back of customs and import fees is not allowed - Funds for up to 8% administrative costs can now be requested (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-01-028.html). - Organizations must comply with federal/NIH policies on human subjects, animals, and biohazards. -Organizations must comply with federal/NIH biosafety and biosecurity regulations - Proposed research should provide a unique research opportunity, not available in the U.S.
