Circadian Mechanisms Contributing to Obesity, Diabetes Metabolism, and Underlying Heart, Lung, and Blood Disorders (R01): This FOA invites applications for clinical research to elucidate circadian-dependent mechanisms contributing to the pathophysiology of human obesity, diabetes-related metabolism, obesity-coupled risks for heart, lung, and blood disease, and the identification of novel therapies to improve circadian rhythm for primary or secondary prevention of obesity-associated disease risks. Multi-disciplinary, multiple-investigator teams proposing mechanistic clinical studies to elucidate the relationship of circadian rhythm to causal pathways of disease are encouraged. Studies of epidemiological risk and clinical trials to assess therapeutic efficacy, effectiveness, or implementation are outside the scope of this program.
