Community Colleges in the 21st Century: The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Consulate General, Chennai (PAS Chennai) proposes to fund a four-day symposium in Chennai that will bring 4-5 representatives from leading community colleges in the United States to work with ICRDCE representatives and 50 subject experts from Indian community colleges involved in curriculum development. The American and Indian experts will study the existing curriculum and develop a standardized syllabus, using the American model, to be adopted in community colleges across India. The Indian draft curriculum will be shared with the American experts several weeks prior to their arrival in India to enable them to study it in detail and come up with suggestions to improve and change them wherever necessary. During the four-day workshop, the Indian and American experts will fine tune and finalize the curriculum, which will then be presented to the National Skills Development Corporation for their final approval and implementation in the next academic year.
