Complementary and Alternative Medicine (Cam) Therapy in the Treatment of Hiv/Aids: This initiative will support research to identify potential roles for the safe and effective use of CAM in the treatment of HIV/AIDS and its complications, or to ameliorate medication side effects. NCCAM and NINR are especially interested in supporting well-designed studies to characterize and investigate traditional medicine practices used in the treatment of HIV/AIDS. In this context, traditional medicine practices are derived from systems that have evolved their own coherent bodies of knowledge, and are differentiated from conventional or biomedical systems.
