Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU), Chesapeake Watershed CESU: The purpose of the Northern Rocky Mountain Science Center (NRMSC) funding opportunity is to use parasite genetics to estimate host demographics and contacts that result in pathogen transmission within and among host species. Using a lentivirus, it is proposed to look at host and pathogen movement at temporal and spatial scales to understand spatial dynamics, invasion and spread of pathogens in a wildlife host, most particularly ungulates. NRMSC conducts research in support of natural resources management in the mountains and plains of Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota and Idaho. The NRMSC produces and disseminates scientific information needed for decision-making in collaboration with Federal and State land management agencies, Native American tribes, academic institutions and organizations. Since 2001, NRMSC has funded projects that advance the Center in producing strong and unbiased scientific information necessary for decision making. NRMSC will continue to support such projects.
