Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, Rock Mountain CESU: The Office of the Chief Office of Water Information of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in support of the USGS Water Program is offering a Cooperative Agreement to one or more member universities of the Cooperative Ecosystems Studies Unit (CESU) Program. The project is titled "Watershed Boundary Delineation and Attribution for the State of California". This USGS-funded project will coordinate closely with a national effort to complete the Watershed Boundary Dataset for the nation http://www.ncgc.nrcs.usda.gov/products/datasets/watershed/, and create a national, consistent, seamless, and hierarchical watershed boundary dataset based on topographic and hydrologic features across the country, which imbed a common addressing system. Description: The completion of the work will be in accordance with the Federal Standards for Delineation of Hydrologic Unit Boundaries, October 2004, Version 2.0. Outline of tasks: 1. Complete watershed delineations for specified sub-basins in California through the 6th level. 2. Provide 6th level dataset to USGS and state of California coordination group for review, and be available to participate in those reviews as needed. 3. Provide monthly status reports to USGS. 4. Complete attribution of dataset to meet the required elements of the standards. 5. Incorporate agreed upon edits that are a result of scheduled reviews. 6. Provide completed sub-basins to USGS, after in house QA/QC is performed. The USGS will be a full participant with the CESU partner. Participants will work closely together in planning, guidance clarification, and execution of the data development and final review. The CESU study component will supplement and add perspective to the USGS mission of providing the nation with hydrologic information that can be used to better manage the nations lands. Assistance to resource management agencies, and the public relates directly to this goal. In addition, the final product from this project will add to a national database of geographic information. This database will contain consistent and accurate attributes for watersheds all over the nation and will provide a basis for regional assessments of our nations water resources for the foreseeable future. The objective of this work is to delineate and define watersheds to the 6th level with a consistent, reproducible method that meets National standards and that is accepted by all agencies, public land users, and user representatives.
