Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, Rocky Mountain CESU: U.S. Geological Survey¿s (USGS) Northern Rocky Mountain Science Center (NoROCK) is offering a funding opportunity to assess the role of mineral licks in the aggregation of deer and elk, as well as the transmission of chronic wasting disease. This research opportunity will advance the understanding of CWD transmission and potential management interventions. Landowners will be recruited from the Wyoming CWD core-endemic area and camera traps and GPS collar information will be used to assess the use of artificial mineral licks and wildlife excluder devices on deer and elk aggregation as well as cattle use of the mineral lick. In the first year of the project the cooperator will define the study region and locate amenable landowners, initiate a pilot data collection, develop a database, identify mineral lick sites and locations for future treatments
