Cooperative Ecosystem Stuides Unit, Pacific Northwest CESU: The USGS is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research to produce a digital atlas of refugia and resilience for species of conservation concern in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. A variety of research teams at institutions across the Pacific Northwest region have produced geospatial data layers to identifying resilient landscapes or climatic refugia (areas where species may persist in a changing climate). However, these data layers are not often readily useable by wildlife managers. Therefore, the funding opportunity involves the synthesis of existing maps of refugia and resilience together with maps of species ranges and habitats to produce a digital atlas for species of conservation concern. This effort (especially the choice of species and the design of the atlas) should be guided by natural resource managers, such as though coordinated in-person meetings. This effort should seek to ensure that the atlas meets the needs of managers by involving at least three state wildlife managers in the design process.
