Department of Defense (DOD) FY05 Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Research Program (TSCRP) Natural History Study Award (NHSA): The United States Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC), Office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) invites applications for funding for the Fiscal year 2005 Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Research Program (TSCRP) Natural History Study Award. The intent of the Natural History Study Award is to sponsor focused, hypothesis-driven natural history studies that will enhance the current knowledge of TSC manifestations and improve clinical management of the disorder and/or the design, implementation, and interpretation of clinical trials. This mechanism is not intended to support descriptive, broad-based studies that are limited to collecting information (clinical, pathological, radiographical, or other) with no accompanying analysis or hypothesis testing. Instead, the TSCRP is soliciting proposals for studies that will test a specific hypothesis or answer a clearly defined question regarding the natural history of TSC. Please see complete announcement for instruction. Funding for the FY05 Natural History Study Award can be requested for a maximum of $1M over a 3-year performance period, inclusive of both direct and indirect costs. Direct costs can cover salary, expenses including research supplies, and travel to scientific/technical meetings. The amount for this travel may not exceed $1,800 per year per investigator. Applicants also should budget for travel to a pre-award meeting and protocol workshop at Fort Detrick, Maryland and a reverse site visit in the Baltimore-Washington, DC area during the period of performance. Approximately $1M is available for this award mechanism. Depending on the number and quality of the applications, it is anticipated that one to two proposals will be funded. Electronic submission is required. Proposals will be accepted only as PDF files submitted through the CDMRP eReceipt system. No paper copy submissions will be accepted. The CDMRP uses a two-tier review process for proposals: scientific peer review, followed by programmatic review. Details of both tiers of review can be found in the Full Text of Program Announcement. Estimated timelines for the FY05 Natural History Study Award are as follows: Full Proposal Submission Deadline: February 22, 2005, 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time; Peer Review: April, 2005; Programmatic Review: July, 2005; Award Start Date: Between September, 2005 and January, 2006.
