Department of the Defense (DoD) Ovarian Cancer Research Program (OCRP) Concept Award: The Ovarian Cancer Research Program (OCRP) Concept Award supports new ideas and the exploration of innovative concepts or theories in ovarian cancer. The proposed research should provide a catalyst to challenge or expand current thinking and approaches in ovarian cancer research. Presentation of preliminary data is not consistent with the intent of this mechanism. However, a rationale for the work must be provided. Proposals must describe how the unique concept could create a new avenue for investigation and how it is relevant to ovarian cancer. Proposals may address any area in ovarian cancer; proposals in the following research areas are encouraged: . Developing or testing molecular imaging for early detection of ovarian cancer . Identifying the primary lesion in ovarian cancer, including the possibility of environmental or infectious origin . Addressing whether early and late stage ovarian cancer are the same disease . Addressing quality of life issues associated with ovarian cancer treatment, such as neuropathy and cognitive changes . Identifying or validating targets for vaccine development . Investigating the impact of genetic factors affecting metabolism (nutritional genomics) or environment on ovarian cancer Because these awards are designed for preliminary investigations, projects involving human subjects or specimens will not be supported unless they are exempt under 32 CFR 219.101(b) or eligible for expedited review (32 CFR 219.110 or 21 CFR 56.110). Studies that do not qualify for exempt or expedited status during review at any level will be administratively withdrawn and will not be funded.
