Enhanced Surveillance in the Republic of Uganda under the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR): The purpose of this program is to address the following goals: A. To conduct field surveys, surveillance and laboratory-based studies on important human infectious diseases in Uganda with an emphasis on HIV-related activities for sero-behavioral and clinical care surveillance for most at-risk or high risk group populations, prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT), voluntary counseling and testing (VCT), maternal and child health, neglected tropical diseases, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), tuberculosis, and malaria. B. To incorporate the results of the surveys and surveillance into operational health promotion, disease prevention and control programs in Uganda and ensure the sharing of expertise and surveillance findings not only with the host country government entities, but also with other nations, non-governmental agencies and academic institutions.
