FY05 Technologies for Metabolic Monitoring (TMM) Research Program BAA Supplement: FY05 Technologies for Metabolic Monitoring (TMM) Research Program BAA Supplement The US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (MRMC) in support of the TMM Program (which also includes the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, NASA and NIH/NIDDK) is soliciting novel and innovative research proposals in the area of metabolic monitoring and diabetes measurement and control. It is anticipated that approximately $3 million dollars will be awarded for funding of novel and innovative basic research proposals associated with metabolic monitoring. The maximum requested amount for each proposal should not exceed $300,000 (inclusive of direct and indirect costs). This years TMM research program seeks projects that are focused on solving technological barriers to the rapid development of next generation minimally invasive devices for long term monitoring of key metabolic markers such as glucose, lactate, and fatty acids. Examples of topics include but are not limited to managing tissue responses to implanted sensors; improved algorithms for closed loop glucose management; strategies to overcome skin barrier properties and physiology affecting through-skin measurements; approaches to improve sensor analyte response characteristics including sensitivity and specificity; novel approaches to integrated sensor and signal responses for more efficient biosensors; physiological data relating analyte measurements in various tissue compartments to blood glucose management and/or acute physiological responses (e.g., neuroglycopenia). Instructions for proposal submission are located at the following website: http://www.usamraa.army.mil/pages/index.cfm . Only full proposals are required in response to this announcement. The main body of the proposal may not exceed 10 pages. In addition to the evaluation criteria contained in the Broad Agency Announcement, projects will be selected on the basis of scientific merit and relevance to the overall TMM Research Program. Information about other projects that have been funded under the TMM Research Program can be obtained at http://www.MOMRP.org. Proposals must be received at USAMRAA, ATTN: USAMRAA-BAA (2005 TMM), 820 Chandler Street, Fort Detrick, Maryland 21702-5014 by 2:00 PM Eastern Time, 25 February 2005 to be eligible for consideration.
