The KMTA NHA focuses on encouraging preservation and conservation of the region's nationally important story of Native Alaskans, Russians, miners and other settlers who traveled in, settled and developed the land within the northeastern Kenai Peninsula and other lands within the heritage area. This Task Agreement focuses on planning, administration, marketing, and preservation and conservation projects that occur during the period of performance of October 2019-September 2022 and are within the scope of the approved management plan for the KMTANHA and serve a public purpose under Public Law. No. 111-11. Management of the Kenai Mountains-Turnagain Arm National Heritage Area is fundamentally tied to public purpose. The Recipient's management plan required by the Act includes a variety of approaches to conserve and interpret the heritage area for the public. These approaches include the promotion of resource conservation; development of interpretive themes; strengthening of partnerships within heritage area; and, encouragement of growth of a regional tourism and recreational economy. The management plan also includes a variety of action areas which may be undertaken to protect or promote the resources of the heritage area, including securing potential partnership funding sources. Furthermore, the plan includes an inventory of the resources contained in the heritage area which may be protected because of their natural, cultural, historic, recreational, or scenic significance for the public. This task agreement will fund community projects that directly support the objectives of the management plan. These projects greatly benefit local communities and the public who live or travel through the heritage area.
