Health Education And Training Centers: The Health Education and Training Program (HETC)* strives to improve the health status and life expectancy of low-income and minority populations. HETCs address the persistent and severe unmet needs in the States along the border between the US and Mexico, in the State of Florida, and in other urban and rural areas with populations with serious unmet health needs. HETCs conduct training and education programs for health professions students in these areas. Additionally, HETCs conduct training in health education services, including training to prepare community health workers and provide support, through education and other services to health professionals (including nurses) practicing in these areas. * This program is not included in the Presidents budget for FY 2005. Potential applicants for funds should consider this announcement provisional until final Congressional action on appropriations is taken. Updated information on Congressional action on appropriations will be available on the HRSA website.

- Public or private nonprofit, accredited schools of medicine and osteopathic medicine, and incorporated consortia of such schools, or the parent institution of such schools are eligible applicants. In states in which no area health education centers program is in operation, an accredited school of nursing is also an eligible applicant. The applicant institution shall collaborate with 2 or more disciplines.
