Health Education And Training Centers: The Health Education and Training Program (HETC)* strives to improve the health status and life expectancy of low-income and minority populations. HETCs address the persistent and severe unmet needs in the States along the border between the US and Mexico, in the State of Florida, and in other urban and rural areas with populations with serious unmet health needs. HETCs conduct training and education programs for health professions students in these areas. Additionally, HETCs conduct training in health education services, including training to prepare community health workers and provide support, through education and other services to health professionals (including nurses) practicing in these areas. * This program is not included in the Presidents budget for FY 2005.
