Hiv/Aids, Severe Mental Illness and Homelessness: This PA replaces PA-98-080. The overall focus of this Program Announcement (PA), sponsored by the NIMH, NIAAA and NIDA, is to refocus research on persons with severe mental illness (SMI), either before or after HIV infection, and to expand HIV-related research to homeless persons. This PA solicits studies on the SMI population and/or homeless persons with special attention to the development, implementation, and evaluation of effective HIV-prevention interventions and their dissemination and translation to the community and public health service organizations. We also solicit studies on the SMI population and/or homeless persons that propose improved methodologies to study descriptive/analytic epidemiology of HIV infection and epidemiology of the behavior associated with risk and the spread of HIV infection. An important objective of this PA is to encourage integration both across and within the different research areas by establishing multidisciplinary research teams and collaborative alliances.
