Impact of Hurricane Sandy on FIIS Water Quality and Seagrass Resources: This is NOT an opportunity to submit applications; this is an anouncement that an award has already been assigned to Stony Brook University for their work on the Impact of Hurricane Sandy on FIIS water quality and seagrass resources. In addition to the draft reports and final submission, the Cooperator will: - Conduct all field sampling and processing of water samples according to the standard operating procedures outlined in "Monitoring protocols for the National Park Service North Atlantic Coastal Parks: Estuarine Nutrient Enrichment." Spatial sampling of estuarine water chemistry, water quality, and water clarity will use a probability-based systematic survey design. - Conduct high resolution seagrass monitoring which will be incorporated in the Vital Signs protocol at the FIIS through the use of permanent-quadrat observations along three 50-m long transects that are stratified by depth. Sampling methods will be consistent with the global seagrass monitoring program SeagrassNet and include percent cover, shoot density, and canopy height. - Produce a final report incorporating all of the previous year's spatial and continuous water quality monitoring data and the FIIS seagrass condition monitoring data collected.
