Initiative for TB/HIV Program Collaboration and Service Integration in the Central America Region under the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR): Globally, Tuberculosis (TB) causes one third of all HIV-related deaths. The TB/HIV collaborative activities that decrease TB among PLHIV when combined with ART include TB screening, TB preventive therapy, and TB infection control. In the Central America Region, there is no integration of TB and HIV programs: gaps remain in TB/HIV collaborative activities, registries are incomplete and inaccurate, and many health care workers (HCW) have limited experience in TB/HIV care and treatment. In collaboration with international and regional agencies such as Global Fund, PAHO, USAID, The Union, COMISCA, and TB Parliamentary Group, the initiative will support Ministries of Health (MOH) in integration of services as well as in the development, review, and dissemination of TB/HIV national guidelines and law initiatives. In addition, it will implement and expand the TB ECHO Project to build capacities among HCW in case management and will provide information system strengthening to improve data management and analysis. The technical group will include MOH, CDC and implementing partner experts in TB/HIV, data management, surveillance, information systems, and M&E.
