Integrative Research to Understand the Impact of Sex Differences on the Molecular Determinants of AD Risk and Responsiveness to Treatment (U01 Clinical Trial Optional): This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) invites applications that employ integrative experimental and analytical approaches engaging basic and translational/clinical research aimed at developing a comprehensive understanding of the impact of sex differences on the trajectories of brain aging and disease, phenotypes of AD and AD-related dementias (ADRD) risk, individualized prevention, and responsiveness to pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions. To this end, the central goal of this initiative is to develop robust research programs that will explore how genes, environment, and host factors such as hormonal status (gonadal and brain-derived) interact at various levels of biologic complexity (i.e., cell, tissue, organs/organ systems, and populations) to produce heterogeneous phenotypes of disease risk and responsiveness to prevention/therapy in AD/ADRD.
