Invasive Species Control and Habitat Restoration: The USFWS Southwest Region Invasives Species Program, specifically the Arizona and New Mexico Invasive Species Strike Teams and the Invasive Species Program for Texas and Oklahoma, is for mobile, self-contained crews to address invasives species control on national wildlife refuges (NWRs) within the region. This program supports projects that address invasive species issues on national wildlife refuges for the purpose of: Critical habitat protection Critical habitat restoration Protection of endangered species Assisting NWRs in detecting new invaders Assisting NWRs in control of new invaders with integrated pest management Enhance awareness (education) of NWRs invasive species challenges and solutions to the public. The mechanism through which this work is accomplished includes: Herbicide treatments Mechanical removal Restoration Monitoring Early Detection, Rapid Response (EDRR) Crews will provide detailed reports concerning treatments, including methods, acreage and effectiveness.
