June Sucker Recovery Implementation Program, Carp Removal: This project will support the June Sucker Recovery Implementation Program (JSRIP) through common carp fish removal from Utah Lake to aid in the recovery of the endangered June Sucker. The goal of this project is to manage and develop sources to protect the June Sucker by improving instream habitat. The project will remove and dispose of twenty-five million pounds of common carp from Utah Lake. Removal will involve the capture, removal, transport, and proper disposal of common carp from Utah Lake. The activities to be funded through this action include the following methods of carp removal: • Seines (beach seines, purse seines, or other nets hauled through the water) • Trawls • Traps (hoop nets, fyke nets, pond nets) The list of methods above is not meant to be inclusive and the development of other methods of removal is possible. Those conducting the removal will be required to obtain a certificate of registration from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. This process requires approval of the proposed removal techniques.
